Dance & Fitness Classes

PSCA is dedicated to the fitness and artistic endeavors of our circus students. With the opening of Circus Campus, we installed a brand-new dance studio to work hand-in-hand with this mission. Beginning in fall 2018, PSCA will offer dance and dance fitness classes with esteemed dance and fitness instructors.

Adult Barre Fitness

For the first four Thursdays in August, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM we are offering a Barre Fitness workshop series. Feel free to sign up for one class, a handful of classes, or all four! And be sure to keep an eye out for our Fall Barre class schedule.

Adult Modern Dance

This class is all about finding your center and moving from a strong base. The class features a full body warm up that prepares each individual to move as their best self. Focus is on building strength, stamina, coordination, and balance through contemporary dance techniques and fun, energetic music. Each class offers a short dance combination and always finishes with a generous cool down. This class is for anyone returning to dance after a long hiatus, dancers looking for new floor exercises, and for complete beginners looking to try something new. All are welcome!

Adult Beginner Ballet

In this class, we will explore the fundamentals of ballet. We will approach the technique in a safe, anatomy-based way and investigate the kinesthetic experience of the style. We will acknowledge ballet’s history in Western aesthetics while remaining open and inclusive to bodies and interpretations that may not fit this mold. Appropriate for those brand new to dance, as well as those looking for a refresher.

In addition to our adult dance classes, we are offering two dance classes this fall for our youth students.

Teen Modern Dance on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30

Youth Acro Dance on Fridays from 6:30-7:30

About the Instructors

Kat J. Sullivan is a dancer and writer in the greater Philadelphia area. She graduated from Franklin & Marshall College with degrees in Dance and Anthropology, as well as the Excellence in Choreography Award. She has performed with various companies and independent artists throughout the area, most recently <fidget>. Kat’s work has been shown in Pennsylvania and New York, including the Come Together Festival (PHL) and the Triskelion Arts Comedy in Dance Festival (NYC). She writes and works administratively for thINKingDANCE.

Mira Treatman is a dancer and choreographer. Her work has been presented at Dixon Place, Glasshouse, and the Sandy Spring Museum. She has taught performance and dance at 954 Dance Movement Collective and Arts Letters & Numbers, where she was an artist in residence. Mira studied theatre and dance at Beloit College, Gibney Dance Center, and Headlong Performance Institute. She is currently a writer for thINKingDANCE.net.

Megan Gallagher is a certified barre instructor and running coach living in the beautiful Wissahickon Valley. When not teaching classes, I work as a freelance marketing consultant for entrepreneurial women and area non-profits, and I also offer studio classes at area workspaces, retreats, and offices.
