New Adults

If you have no experience…

you’ll want to start with our recommended classes for new students. These classes are designed to be accessible to all body types and fitness levels, and so are the perfect way to get familiar with the circus arts.

Classes for New Students

If you have some experience…

in circus, gymnastics, rock climbing, cross fit or any other extreme sport, we still recommend starting with one of the classes above! It’s an inexpensive way for us to get to know you and help you find the right class.
If you have a lot of experience and would like to come to a higher level class, one option is to schedule a private lesson with an instructor who teaches the class you are interested in. This will be an evaluation lesson where the instructor can recommend the right level for you. You can request a private lesson here.
Your second option is to email Coach Rachel at with video documentation of yourself performing or practicing in the circus art you want to study. She can evaluate your skills from the video and make recommendations from the appropriate class and level. You are always welcome to call the Front Desk with any questions you have about this process.

New Youth

If you have no experience…

All our classes are broken down by age, so all you have to do is go to the Youth Class Calendar and scroll to the appropriate age grouping.  It is not always possible to join mid-semester, but it is worth checking with the office at 215-849-1991 or emailing us at

Youth Class Calendar

If you have some experience…

in circus, gymnastics, dance, parkour or any other athletics you may be able to pass through our introductory level classes. In order to do this, you must contact us to set up a private assessment. This is easiest through our Private Lessons form.

You can also be assessed ‘in-class’ by signing up for Level 1. Sign up for Level 1 and email Coach Rachel and we’ll get you placed correctly.

I’ve never done this before – do I need previous experience or training? Are there prerequisites to attend certain classes?

We love beginners at the circus school. There is something for everyone here! Are you looking for fitness, coordination, or just fun? You have three options:

  1. Take a Fundamentals Class! Trapeze and Sling Fundamentals are listed above.
  2. We have Open Houses twice a year, where you get to come in and try a little bit of everything! Just give us a call to find out when the next one will be.
  3. Love individual attention? Sign up for a private lesson to get things started one-on-one.

What do I wear to my class?

Exercise-wear (leotards, long leggings, sweatpants, t-shirts). It’s best if you have the option to cover the backs of your knees and armpits.
NO shorts, belt buckles, dresses, footed tights, jeans, shoes, or jewelry of any kind.

Can I stop by to observe a class?

Yes! Take a look at the online schedule and class descriptions, then give us a call to coordinate the best day/time to observe a class of interest. Please avoid stopping by without scheduling as we want to be sure to be available and responsive to your questions. We will also gladly make recommendations based on your experience, fitness level, and overall goals.

Can I start at any time or do I have to wait for the beginning of a session?

Adults can start at any time, as long as there is available space in a class.

Youth classes are enrolled by session, but if you would like to observe a class please contact and we can set up a visit.

Do I have to start at the beginning level? I have taken circus classes before, or I am an experienced dancer, yoga practitioner, physical actor, etc.

We offer evaluative private lessons for new students with experience to help place them into our level system.

You can book a private lesson HERE; please describe your experience level.

Alternatively, you can sign up for a Fundamentals class and we can help place you from there.

Can I take a single lesson, or do I have to sign up for an entire class session?

Adult classes at PSCA happen on a class card system; you can learn more about it HERE.

Youth classes at PSCA happen in sessions, and you do have to sign up for the whole session.

What if there is inclement weather / How will I be notified of class cancellations?

Class cancellations due to significant inclement weather will be posted to our website and on our Facebook page, and when possible, an email notice will also be sent.
If PSCA closes due to inclement weather, your account will be credited the amount of that day’s class and applied directly to your account. Unless notice is provided as described, all classes will be running according to the session’s schedule. Be sure to “like” our Facebook page to receive these updates.

Please check your “promotions” tab if you use Gmail! Important PSCA news may end up there.

I have to miss a class. Can I make it up?

Please see our full Absences and Makeups Policy here.

I need to drop a class. Can I get a refund?

Adults can cancel and remake reservations on their own! Class cards can be put on hold in the event of injury, and refunds can be issued for class cards in certain circumstances. Check out this tutorial on canceling reservations.

Youth may cancel their registration before the second class of the session, and are eligible for a refund or credit for the remaining classes.

Do you offer payment plans?

We do not regularly offer payments plans. In cases of urgent need, please contact the office

Can I take photos/video?
